All written work submitted to Mood of Monk will go through an editing process before publication, and the editorial team reserves the right not to publish submitted work at their own discretion. However any work you submit should be in ‘final draft’ stages, adhere to our formatting guidelines and our content manifesto. We have taken great care in constructing a journal which presents work of a specific quality while adhering to (and rebelling against) certain genre conventions. You should be familiar with our content in order to make sure what you pitch is suitable.
At this stage, Mood of Monk is operating on a pro-bono basis with the intent to pay and commission writers further down the track. We are very aware of the downturn of creative economy and do not wish to become a publisher which profits off the kindness of its writers, but as with any start-up platform, we are running on limited finances, entirely at the expense of the founders. Mood of Monk, unlike many online publications, has every intention to provide payment for work should the journal return a profit. In addition, we also plan to compensate writers retroactively where possible.
