NEWS: Sydney Dance Company’s teaser video for “2 One Another”
Although we try not to favour the Mood of Monk team with our coverage, we are a little bit proud of the work that our own Editor-in-Chief, Samuel Webster, has been doing with Sydney Dance Company. Though we didn’t cover his previous dance-related work, Protogenos, 2 One Another is another example of Samuel using poetry in response to dance. While Mood of Monk publishes responses after the fact, 2 One Another was a chance for him to use that technique in real time, as a work was being delivered.
The video below, released today by Sydney Dance Company comes from the development stage for the work. Samuel says he asked the dancers to respond to poetry he had written “and the ideas which the group had already expressed. The interviews took quite different paths, some entertaining full dialogue and others responding plainly, simply giving their opinion. Working with core emotions allowed for a huge diversity of ideas in that early stage.”
2 One Another is a world premiere work choreographed by Artistic Director Rafael Bonachela. With this work he collaborates with the visionary production designer Tony Assness who last joined forces with Rafael for 36O ° in 2008.
